I get to the store and you know what I saw? FREE SAMPLES! Well slap my rump and call me Sally, I was colored pink! I guzzled the samples with the help of the very informative staff. I learned myself a lot about tea while I was at it. It was all good fun. Well I snake my way up to the counter and that's where the matcha hit the fan.
Wish, wish, wish I could give a lower rating. All I wanted was a small amount of tea; enough to make a few cups. I was told they LITERALLY (sic) could not sell less than two ounces of each tea in the blend because it was against "company policy". Well, is selling tea in your company policy? Or making money? Because I don't need a fancy mug, a special tin and ounces and ounces of tea to enjoy a couple of cups. And, as your customer, I'll tell you how much I want to buy. Not the other way around. I mean, get real. IT'S ONLY TEA.
I took my fiancé here for a Valentine's day brunch. We were the first to arrive and got a great corner booth-like seat. The place is very charming and the food was pretty amazing. It is on the pricy side but you get the atmosphere for the price. Highly recommend it for special occasions especially if you are into brunch.
The quality of everything inside this store is top-notch, which also means slightly higher prices than we wish. Most of the tea pots are hand made in Japan and the teas are as close to natural you get without going organic, which is nice because I know my tea will never contain artificial flavors (they infuse the fruit juice back in for 'flavoring') or strange preservatives. My only problem with this place is how pushy some of the employees are, but I know they work on partial commission and are required to make sales to keep their job.
Bottom-line here Steepers? Go there. Go there with the vigor of the entire Confederacy, but avoid... That Man.
If you want to spend $40 or more just to find out if you like the tea as much as you like the sample, then Teavana is the place for you. But with this business policy, act fast, because it probably won't be in the mall much longer.
So there I am right? Just clogging through the mall as I often do on even-numbered Saturday mornings, when a smell befell my nostrils. It was like in those old cartoons where bugs bunny smells a pie on a window sill and he floats along the smell-trail. I did that. It lifted me right out of my pine-wood clogs.
So I walked out.
Waited around for 20 min to have some one help me. I was trying to see where the discounted chai mix was in the store, as they had it online. I hear an associate tell another customer that was looking for an online discounted item that he could adjust the store price to match online, and he rang up her purchase. I get up to the counter to get help and say that I wanted the chai blend as online, and he tells me only the samurai is on sale, so he could blend it but it would be $2 more per ounce than the online price. Why the difference in customer service in five minutes? I only get tea on sale here as it's overpriced otherwise, and after this, I'm done. Go to Global Infusions instead and shop local and better prices.
The gentleman behind the counter asked what samples I liked so I told him (I was head over heels for that chai sample). Well before I could even tell him why I wanted it or how much, he starts weighing out a whole pound! Now li'l ol' me just won't do with a pound of tea. I told him three times that I don't want that much. I was flabbergasted. Appalled. Disgusted (not with the tea). Distraught.
I carried myself back days later when he was not mucking up the salesfloor and had a lovely presentation with the cheery woman behind the counter. I got just enough tea for myself to try out.
